DAE teaches high school students about innovative technology.
A Connecticut nonprofit is on a mission to deliver educational programs to high school students in New Haven.
DAE created a new program focused on quantum programming.
“It is the first high school quantum computing program in the state. It’s only one of three in the country,” said A.M. Bhatt, founder and CEO of DAE.
The program is every Tuesday and Thursday for four weeks at their headquarters in New Haven. Instructors Devanshi Tandel and Atta-Kakra Detome are at the forefront of teaching the students.
“We want to work on the transformation of their mindset, like how classical computer works from how quantum computer [works], and how quantum is all about probabilities, uncertainty,” Tandel said.
This knowledge is offered to them for free.
“Education is a human right. We will never charge for it,” Bhatt said.
High school students Kimora Dash and Daniel Smolnik said they have found their place with DAE.
“It’s very welcoming. There’s not like a lot of pressure like there is in school where you feel like there’s a lot of pressure if you mess up,” Dash said. “If you need help you can ask someone. It’s really like a one-on-one thing and you don’t really have to feel nervous or afraid to speak up about what you wanna learn if something is going too fast.”
They created a Github account on their second day of the program, which Dash said helped to “put all their work in one area so they don’t lose it.”
The program is only for high school students because they will be the future of quantum computing.
“Right now, like big companies IBM, Google, Amazon, and NVIDIA, they are actually making these machines. So quantum computing is not just theory anymore. It’s going to be big after five years,” Tandel said.
This could be a great next step for students like Dash, who started with DAE’s coding program.
“We actually made our own game websites and environmental stuff, robotics stuff. I personally just made a website, a fashion website,” Dash said.
High school students in Stamford and Norwalk can register for programs at DAE’s Stamford location. Bhatt said a new location is in the works.
“Bridgeport is the next town that we wanna be in. We think we can really have an impact,” he said.
No prior experience is required for these programs.
